Me voy a Perú!

It’s been a while, I know. But don’t worry because if you drop by our site and there hasn’t been a lot of updates, it’s probably because we’re extremely busy developing or working on something: some of which will be posted online soon! But what’s really been taking up my time (not Aude’s because she is currently in Lebanon) are the preps for a documentary that I’ll be shooting next week in Peru.

Essentially I was chosen to produce, shoot, direct and edit a documentary about an expedition in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru. The man behind the expedition is Bernard Voyer: a world-renowned explorer who traveled to the North and South Pole as well as Mount Everest.

His idea essentially is to gather young socially engaged teenagers from the most isolated areas of Québec (Kuujjuaq, La tabatière to name a few) and give them the chance to come together and visit other isolated areas of the world (i.e the mountains of Peru) and do community work and to surmount a trek that might seem insurmountable to many.

So I’ll be following these teenagers, filming them along their way. Might seem fun and simple but the more I prepare the more I realize that this will be extremely demanding and exhausting. For example:

-I am entirely responsible for 12 days to shoot and direct the film alone in a foreign country.

-For 6 days, I will be at 3500m+ in altitude, sleeping in a tent with no electricity. Temperature will fluctuate from + 25 degrees Celsius to – 10 at night. So how is my equipment going to handle that?

-They say the climate is arid, but last I checked it’s been raining for the last week.

-I have to lug the majority of my equipment for a trek of 62kms in mountainous terrain.

So…. how am i going to handle this??

I’ll do my best to post on the spot updates. But considering the area we’ll be in expect more to get delayed transcribed versions of my daily journals that I will be bringing with me for the next two weeks.
